The Artz Centre in Birch Green, Skelmersdale have just celebrated their 3rd anniversary after opening their doors to the local community in January 2014. Last weekend saw them populate the DW Stadium in Wigan for their prestigious, annual awards night. A black tie event that really showcased the hard work and effort the staff and students have put in over the last 12 months. A period that consisted of thirteen productions including the release of their anti crime film “Crossing The Line”. Which is currently being shown in schools across the country.
Nearly 350 guests attended the event, including The Mayor of West Lancashire, Liz Savage and special guests from many of the partnership agencies and organisations that continue to work with the Artz Centre. The night was a spectacle, with awards and celebrations going on till the early hours, a real tribute to the children and families of the Skelmersdale area.
Seventeen year old Liam Hogarth scooped the top prize after joining the Artz Centre just twelve months earlier. Other big winners where ten year old Ekene Hallam who won Junior Student of The Year, and Fourteen year old Charlotte Moran who won the top prize at The Artz Academy in Upholland. The evening was filled with inspirational stories from another record breaking year from the Skelmersdale based company.
Cllr Liz Savage – Mayor of West Lancashire had this to say;
“What a fantastic evening, I was really impressed with camaraderie of the young people who delighted in their friends receiving awards. It was obvious how hard everyone had worked across the year and you could tell how much the centre means to everyone who is involved whether as performer or teacher.”
Mark Ashton – Artz Centre Director
“I am often asked if the whole event is a little over the top, with tuxedo’s and large screens displaying Oscars style videos of the year. My response is always the same – Yes absolutely over the top. Its an event that our students look forward to, a chance to get dressed up, a chance to share in a year of success. We have never been comfortable with cutting corners and this event has been the cherry on the cake of an amazing year for us all.”
The Artz Centre have now begun work on another exciting year of productions and events including a new music programme and drama classes for 3-6 year olds. For more information please call 01695 733080
