Artz Students Entertain Mayor

The Artz Centre was in the spotlight again recently as they provided entertainment for the Mayors Charity Showcase event at Hurlston Hall. The event was to mark the end of the Mayoral year and to pay tribute to all those who have helped in a fantastic year of fundraising.

The Artz Centre sent 25 students to represent them, ranging from ages 8 to 21. The student’s  performed two 35 minute sets that featured some of the most memorable musical theatre songs of the last fifty years, including songs from Cats, West Side Story, Les Miserables and the new American smash hit, Hamilton.

One guest said – “It was like someone had picked us up, and put us in a West End Theatre,” others commented on the outstanding professionalism and talent of the youngsters from Skelmersdale.

Artz Director Mark Ashton commented; “We where very grateful to be be chosen as one of the mayors charitable causes for 2016-17. We wanted to say thank you in our own way and thought this would be a great way to do so. I was immensely proud of the students and staff who put on an outstanding show for the Mayor and her guests. The students where walking in to the unknown, and a very different atmosphere to what they are used to, nights like this are what performers thrive on and the extra pressure of the occasion certainly brought out the best in them.”

Great feedback from the event has continued to pour in, The Mayor commented;  “The Artz centre provided a fantastic evening of entertainment. The students commitment and preparation prior to the evening was evident and their performances were amazing.  A visiting mayor commented on the standard and said it had some of the best performances that she had ever seen and outperformed professional shows.”

The Artz Centre perform a range of shows and events throughout the year with a busy summer of productions all ready in the calendar. They are currently working on a night of Monologue, High School Musical and the brand new Madagascar. These productions will be staged in June and July this year.
